Fabric

Whether you now own an upholstered chair, recliner or a new sectional, understanding the fabric choice you purchased will help understand how to protect and clean it. The following steps will help you appropriately take care of your family’s new pieces.

• Vacuum: Weekly vacuuming helps remove dirt and dust to prevent these everyday elements from setting into the fibers.
• Turning: Upholstered cushions were designed to be utilized on a regular basis. Weekly turning and fluffing these will allow for even distribution of daily wear and tear over a longer period of time.
• Cleaning: When purchasing your new upholstered couch or chair, Cedar Hill Furniture will be able to tell you the cleaning code based on the fabric you selected and purchased. If you aren’t sure, please contact us and we will be able to help you determine this code and treatment of the product.
  • W – The “W” stands for fabrics that need cleaned strictly using a water based agent. Spot clean using foam from water based cleaners and vacuum when dry. Foam can also be applied in a circular motion utilizing a soft brush. Always pretest a small area before proceeding. Seek the use of a professional furniture cleaning service if there is a large soiled section and notify them of the type of product you own.
  • S – “S” codes need a mild water-free cleaning solvent or dry cleaning product. These can be highly toxic so we recommend using a professional cleaning service for “S” fabrics.
  • WS – These fabrics can be cleaned with water or solvent based products such as an upholstery shampoo or the foam from a mild detergent.
  • V – These should be cleaned with warm water and mild soap only as other elements can cause shrinking, staining or distortion to the fabric of your furniture.

Leather

Like fabric, leather furniture also has various cleaning codes. Protective products will increase the life of your leather couch, recliner or sectional. Avoid placing your furniture in direct sunlight within the home as the product may fade over time.

Leather furniture, like any other product in your house, will accumulate dust. Dust weekly with a dampened soft cloth or leather cleaner.

Before utilizing leather cleaner, consult Cedar Hill Furniture or a professional cleaning service. Often times there will be different recommendations for cleaning purposes based on the type of stain on the furniture.

Wood

Make sure to protect your new coffee table, end table, bedroom dresser or kitchen table from Cedar Hill Furniture by taking the proper precautions:

• Do not allow water or damp items to sit on your furniture. (Beverages, sponges, etc.)
• Avoid alcohol-based cleaners.
• Keep nail polish and perfumes away from direct contact with your wooden furniture.
• Do not place hot objects on the furniture without a protective plate.

Dust frequently utilizing a damp cloth. Polish can be used every few months to enhance and protect your finish. You can touch up small marks with a marker or touch-up stick from your local paint store.
